Proactive Primary Care
At Verdi Health, we do not bill insurance directly. Instead, we use a direct-pay model that allows us to spend more time focused on the patient and less time working around the limitations of insurance-based care.
For many patients, that difference is noticeable almost immediately. Appointments do not feel rushed, conversations can go deeper, and medical decisions are centered on what makes sense for your health rather than what fits neatly into an insurance reimbursement structure. If you are looking for a doctor who doesn’t take insurance in Marin County, Verdi Health offers a more personal alternative to the traditional primary care experience.
Health insurance is important, especially when it comes to hospital care, major procedures, emergencies, imaging, specialists, and other significant medical expenses. But insurance also has a major influence on how many medical practices are structured.
Traditional primary care offices often need to see a high volume of patients each day in order to keep up with reimbursement rates, billing requirements, documentation, and administrative overhead. Over time, that can lead to shorter appointments, less direct access to the physician, and a healthcare experience that feels increasingly impersonal.
A direct-pay practice removes much of that administrative burden from the relationship between doctor and patient. At Verdi Health, this gives Dr. Richard Adrouny more time to listen, ask questions, review your history, and think through your care without trying to fit everything into a brief appointment.
Direct-pay medical care, sometimes referred to as cash-pay care, simply means that patients pay the practice directly instead of having the office submit claims to an insurance company.
That does not mean insurance has no role in your healthcare. It means that the relationship between you and your primary doctor is separate from the insurance system. You can still maintain health insurance for outside services, emergencies, hospitalization, specialists, medications, imaging, and other medical expenses while choosing to receive your ongoing care through a direct-pay physician.
For some patients, this model is appealing because it creates a much simpler relationship with their doctor. There are fewer administrative barriers, fewer questions about what an insurance company will or will not cover, and more room to focus on the actual medical issue in front of you.
One of the most common frustrations patients have with traditional healthcare is feeling rushed. It is difficult to explain a complicated symptom, review several medications, or talk through a major health concern when you feel like the appointment is already ending.
At Verdi Health, visits are designed to allow for a more complete conversation. Dr. Adrouny has time to understand what is bothering you, review your medical history, consider how different issues may be connected, and explain his recommendations clearly. You also have time to ask follow-up questions instead of leaving the office realizing there were things you never got a chance to discuss.
That extra time can be especially valuable if you have a complicated medical history, several ongoing conditions, or a health concern that does not have an obvious answer.
Another frustration with modern healthcare is how difficult it can be to actually reach your doctor. Patients may have to navigate phone menus, leave messages with office staff, wait for callbacks, and repeatedly explain their concerns before speaking with someone who knows their history.
Verdi Health is structured to make that relationship more direct. Depending on your care plan, patients may have access to Dr. Adrouny by phone, text, and email for ongoing questions and medical guidance. That continuity matters because you are communicating with a physician who already understands your medical background rather than starting over with someone new each time a concern comes up.
Over time, that familiarity can make healthcare feel less fragmented and more manageable.
One of the benefits of a direct-pay practice is that medical conversations do not have to begin with the question of what an insurance company will reimburse. Instead, the starting point is your health.
That may mean discussing whether a certain test is appropriate, whether a symptom deserves further evaluation, whether a medication still makes sense, or whether you should see a specialist. Dr. Adrouny can explain the reasoning behind his recommendations and help you understand the options available to you.
If you do need services outside Verdi Health, such as imaging, laboratory testing, specialist care, or a procedure, your insurance may still be used for those services depending on your plan.
Verdi Health provides adult primary care with an emphasis on prevention, continuity, and a long-term relationship between patient and physician. Rather than treating each visit as an isolated event, the goal is to understand how your medical history, current concerns, medications, lifestyle, and risk factors fit together.
Care may include:
For patients with more complicated medical needs, having one physician who understands the full picture can be especially valuable.
Yes. A direct-pay doctor is not a replacement for health insurance.
Even if you receive your primary care through Verdi Health, insurance can still be important for hospitalizations, emergency services, surgery, imaging, prescription medications, specialist treatment, laboratory services, and other larger medical expenses. Many patients choose to maintain health insurance while paying directly for a more personal primary care experience.
In that sense, the two can work together. Insurance is there for broader medical expenses, while your relationship with Verdi Health gives you access to a physician who has the time to know you and stay involved in your ongoing care.
Verdi Health does not bill insurance companies directly. Depending on your individual plan, however, you may be able to submit documentation to your insurance carrier for possible out-of-network reimbursement.
Every insurance policy is different, so reimbursement cannot be guaranteed. If this is important to you, it is a good idea to contact your insurance company directly and ask about your out-of-network benefits and whether any portion of your care may be eligible for reimbursement.
Direct-pay care can be a good fit for many different types of patients. Some are managing several chronic conditions or seeing multiple specialists and want one physician who understands everything that is happening. Others are healthy but want to take a more preventive approach and have more time to talk through concerns before they become larger problems.
It may also appeal to patients who are simply tired of feeling rushed, seeing a different provider each time, or having difficulty reaching their physician when a question comes up. You do not need to have a serious medical condition to value a closer and more consistent relationship with your doctor.
Verdi Health is led by Dr. Richard Adrouny, a board-certified physician in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology with more than four decades of experience in the Bay Area medical community.
His career has included primary care, oncology, clinical research, and the management of complex medical conditions. That background gives him a broad perspective on adult health and allows him to look beyond a single symptom or diagnosis when evaluating a patient.
At Verdi Health, that experience is paired with a practice model that gives him the time to listen, explain, and stay involved in his patients’ care.
